Doors that Intrigue

August 4, 2009 by Rayna Diane Hennen

My first love and I recently got back in touch via another ex – always a strange moment! I was excited to see him and glad to have him back in my life as he introduced me to some great stuff including Queen, Pink Floyd and writing poetry. He has become an avid photographer, as am I, and it turns out we have very similar photographic sensibilities. (his stuff is

An Evening with James Victore

May 31, 2009 by Rayna Diane Hennen

Refreshingly candid, and if I may add, prone to swearing which I love, James Victore discussed his career and what he does to stay on top of his creativity. From Picture Wars with his son, Coffee Notes with his wife and continuously learning and forcing himself outside of his boundaries, his creativity is always being exercised. His biggest hurdle is himself; “[he is] the weakest link”.  He has a book

New Frontiers of Graphic Design

April 1, 2009 by Rayna Diane Hennen

A Panel hosted by mediabistro and moderated by Stephanie Murg, co-editor of UnBeige View Photo Slideshow (i’m in the last photo, on the left with Katie Coates) One of the great questions that came out of the audience at the end of this panel was the question, if you could teach kids anything what would it be? Doug Jaeger, founder of thehappycorp global, said he would focus on teaching being

“I think I’ll take a moment and celebrate my age”

March 18, 2009 by Rayna Diane Hennen

As 30 draws near for me and many of my friends I am struck by how many are in a state of alarm. I cannot say for sure how much of it is genuine and how much is just ingrained from hearing people continuously lament the aging process. Were I to take my mother seriously on how unwelcome age is I think I would have ended it before 25. This

I am at the point where I have to be vigilant. I h I am at the point where I have to be vigilant. I have been here before, trying to capture an idea. ✏️

These prep steps are necessary, for sure. Trying to dive into some things with no prep or planning

But.

Prepping and planning can go on forever as a way of not ruining the idea in your head. In fact… writing this post is a way of productively procrastinating.

I am at the point where I could draw an outline of the flower shape that I want to do but my brain is like OMG you’re going to ruin it because you have no idea what I'm doing (I don't). Welcome to perfectionism - my arch nemesis!

This is productive because I am working through my thoughts to stave off perfectionism and creating a post to share on social (which I'm really consistent about...)

Now about that painting outline...

Welcome to August! Did you know that August was on Welcome to August! Did you know that August was once the 6th month of the year and the first-ever sandwich was created by.... the Earl of Sandwich. Lunch just wouldn't be the same without it! ☀️ 🥪
I have pulled off the side of the road to grab a c I have pulled off the side of the road to grab a close up of a flower but every now and again, I'll get a scenic shot that steals my heart, too.

Continuing with the Bluebeard collage. After doing Continuing with the Bluebeard collage. After doing this I changed the blade on the xacto – the edges of the chair had white rough edges.

Bluebeard is originally a French folktale though many countries have a version. In the spirit of IMDB unhelpful, one-line descriptions of movies: A man with a deadly secret, intent on luring a young woman to be his new bride. 😄 🤷

A little more specific: The tale is about a wealthy man in the habit of murdering his wives and the attempts of the present one to avoid the fate of the previous wives. 🫣

This will be for the first spread, the ‘romance’ – truly, it’s not romantic, he’s trying to sway one of the sisters into, what will be a not so sweet marriage.

There will be 5 spreads total: the romance, finding the little door, the bloody key, the brothers to the rescue, and (kind of a gruesome end) the vulture.
