The Intersection of Art, Design & Life

Parachutes and Javascript

January 11, 2011 by Rayna Diane Hennen

I don’t have to work for the #1 ad agency in the world (some would ask well, why not?) but I have read some job descriptions that, while I could do it, it didn’t inspire me. That or the company left something to be desired. Did I apply? Yes, to a couple of them but since there are only so many jobs available on any given day and after I have taken care of any freelance work, there is inevitably down time. So, as my grandfather used to say, might as well do something even if it’s wrong. Meaning, doing something is better than nothing because it gets the ball rolling.

Art Journal: Week One

January 10, 2011 by Rayna Diane Hennen

I decided this year to keep a weekly art journal. I’ve always kept a journal – I have a storage container full of them probably from when I was 8 or 9. I tend to doodle a little bit in them but mostly it’s just writing and taped in mementos like movie tickets, funny notes, things like that. In my aim to incorporate more creative elements into my life in general I thought this might be fun, easy way to do that every week.

Adventures in Photography

September 30, 2010 by Rayna Diane Hennen

And then, the other building, in another part of Brooklyn. As you walk up to it with your camera you are quick to avert your eyes from the man who just pulled up his pants from taking a quick pee on a fire hydrant.

The Mom Swatch Pillows Progressing Nicely!

September 26, 2010 by Rayna Diane Hennen

Actually, the measuring/gauge was fine I just forgot to add an inch to each side for the seams. Silly rabbit. Better noticing at 6 inches than 16. I then had to undo about 2 or 3 inches 2 different times because I botched the double moss stitch border, probably by not paying attention (maybe knitting and season premieres don’t go well together…).

A Little Art, A Little Yarn

September 16, 2010 by Rayna Diane Hennen

I hadn’t been in a yarn store in so long. Michael’s arts and crafts is just not the same. Yes, they have yarn (but not enough and it’s the same yarn in every store) and yes, they are great for just about everything but it’s not the same. Walking into a yarn store is peaceful. All the yarns and colors reaching to the ceiling and walking around just touching the yarn and thinking of all the wonderful things that could be from all that glorious yarn!

Soft & Pretty – White Mirror

August 20, 2010 by Rayna Diane Hennen

The paint may be my favorite part and I didn’t know it would look the way it does when I started painting. The paint went on very thick and so as I added more paint, there are layers that are raised and softer and areas where the paint is thinner and you can see the wood grain.

Flutterby Wings

August 13, 2010 by Rayna Diane Hennen

Well, most people know them as butterflies but when I was small and cute with chubby knees, I called them flutterbys! Which, actually, makes more sense to me still since that’s really what they do is flutter by you not butter fly you.

🤪 I have been working on the second module of t 🤪 I have been working on the second module of the floral ink drawing course I signed up for a few months ago. ha ha, oh my gosh a test of my rusty drawing skills and my patience!

The thing I have to keep reminding myself, especially when I'm watching her do the inking: she's been doing this for years. This is what she does for a living. I'm not supposed to get it right the first (or second... probably not third either...) time.

A close up of a reddish dogwood. I love close ups A close up of a reddish dogwood. I love close ups of flowers that make them seem abstract.

During a floral photography course, the instructor said that abstract photos do not really count as floral photos. While on the one hand I can see what she means, it is still a flower!

What do you think?

I feel like I just flipped the calendar to March b I feel like I just flipped the calendar to March but here we are - April! I use a calendar of my own photos but after checking them in Dec, when I get the prints, I never peak ahead or actually remember what pictures I chose.

Happy to see that April is one of my favorites from last year 😍
